Now that I have re-invented myself as an artist, this piece is the first to launch my new persona and artistic approach. Keeping with the them of being “disgruntled” this work of digital art represents and sums up most of my adult life as an artist, working professional and all around personal life. Though, today, I am in a better place than I used to be, this one, as well as many of the forthcoming artworks I am creating, are commentaries on my past that will slowly reveal aspects of who I am, where I came from, and all that I have seen and experienced that will reveal how I became “D4Disgruntled”.
ABOUT THE SUBJECT
This work, as stated above, sums up my entire adult life until recently. My career path underwent so many changes, misdirections, and misfires both on a professional level and as a freelancer. I failed as a creative person on so many levels, failed as an entrepreneur and freelancer, and failed in my personal life. As a result over those years, my financial situation also worsened, racking up tons of personal and professional debt. The imagery represents how I felt and viewed the world when I had hit rock bottom. I saw myself sitting alone at the end of a bar in a diner, and being served a bowl of shit with a bill that totaled what I owed the universe for simply existing.
ABOUT THE MEDIUM
I transitioned from traditionally made art (using pencil and paper) to digital tools such as a digital drawing tablet and Clip Studio Paint in combination with Photoshop. This piece originated on paper and was drawn by hand with pencil (see below) over 10 years ago. I scanned it and imported it into Clip Studio Paint where I traced it, made a few modifications to update it, colored it and finished the image in Photoshop with a few minor tweaks.
