Normally, I do not do fan art. When artists do it on for special occasions to celebrate something or do it as a commemorative piece, that is fine, but those who try to make a living off strictly fan art or fan art makes up a majority of their portfolio, that to me shows, the artist simply has no ideas of their own.

However, it seems today that “fan art” is among the biggest trends as of 2024. No one seems to care who the artist is behind the work, they just get excited there is a 1 millionth iteration of the same damn thing - like those vinyl collectors who collect every variation of color, splatter, and swirl released by the record labels. So I thought, what the hell, I would give it shot, and voila, I did my first fan art piece, or mash-up rather, or I guess a hybrid of the two types.

WHY THIS COMBINATION?

I am a fan of the cult classic movies “Killer Klowns From Outer Space” and “Chopping Mall”. I loved both as a kid growing up in the 1980s. As an adult pursuing a career in film music composing, I became friends and a colleague of the composer John Massari (KKFOS) and Chuck Cirino (Chopping Mall). After working with Massari on a variety of KKFOS related endeavors, I directed the filming of the KKFOS live to film concert in May 20218. Cirino was my principle camera man and I had 2 of my own camera guys assist in the multi-cam shot. While we cannot release the film officially due to many license and copyright issues with MGM (and now Amazon), bits and pieces have been seen by many across the internet through various promos, secret screenings and social media posts to help support and raise interest for potential future concerts such as the one in May 2018.

As a result, my love for Killer Klowns From Outer Space was reignited. Working with Cirino also brought me back to Chopping Mall and since the Cirino was the sound designer on KKFOS and Massari was the composer, I thought, what would a clash be like between KKFOS and the Protector Bots from Chopping Mall. So I created a few concepts of this idea. The composition of the artwork was inspired by the “Escape From New York” movie poster.
